As I lay here like a lazy bum at the end of a long day, scrolling through my Iconoscquare (which I only remember by chance every so often and then go.. “oh yeah! that thing is awesome!” ) I noticed a pattern in what makes my instagram photos do well. I honestly have no idea why a photo gets so much love sometimes, but other times I can see a clear formula. Either way,  I thought it might be fun/helpful for myself and for you guys to round up my top ten instagrams this year. Because well… I don’t know about you, but I happen to be an insta-addict. It’s just such a perfect corner for inspiration and I can’t help but want to post everything I see!!! Of course I don’t because I’m sure nobody cares to see every single position my dog sleeps in or what my tv screen looks like on a cozy night in.

When it comes to instagram, I definitely think there is a style that people are used to and like to see. For me, my photos that somehow tell a “story” as well as being a clear/detailed photo do the best. For instance, the background goes well with the clothes and maybe I’m holding a cup of coffee in my hand on my way to work or I’m running in the middle of an open field carelessly. Either way, there is some kind of narrative to it. On the flip side, standing straight towards the camera with a contrasting background also does well as long as my outfit has interesting details.

Something else that really gives my posts that extra OOMPH is when I get love from the brand that I am wearing. Whenever a brand (especially one with a very loyal following) likes one of my photos and/or comments, my post instantly get huge boost. Their followers keep a close eye on what they like and who they comment on. The top three photos shown above are my top 3 of all time. These are very clear, detailed photos that (again) give a natural narrative but at the same time they were all re-grammed by the brand or a third party. So of course, getting featured by other brand has been the biggest boost for my photos!

…FYI… four of these photos were taken with my Iphone… check out “My favorite instagram editing apps” post here.

Do you notice a pattern on your instagram? What is something you think your followers love to see?
