How I found my Wedding Style
How I found my Wedding Style
I was never the type of girl who sat and thought about of her dream wedding. To be honest I never really believed in marriage. I just never understood how two people could be together for their whole lives happily ever after and then that was it. Ugh.. how borrring!!! That was until I met John and then suddenly I thought.. wow marriage actually sounds kind of nice right now. I don’t even want to be not marry this amazing human. It’s really weird how that just happens. Anywho, I would say I’m definitely a non traditional bride.
When John and I finally set a date I wasn’t sure what the hell to do. I never ever thought I would actually be getting married. I never really asked myself “what kind of dress would you wear?” or “what style do you want?”. I always knew if I did ever get married I wanted a small wedding but that’s pretty much it. Yup. And no.. I never watched bridal shows. YUk. As a bride who had no idea what she wanted (although, lets be honest, obviously it would be somewhat boho), I really felt overwhelmed thinking about it all. What colors would be the theme? What kind of Bridesmaid dresses? What kind of dress was I going to wear? What flower bouquet? Such stupid little trivial things! Ahh and just thinking about it made me so stressed (the opposite of what I wanted). Yet, In the end you you obviously want it to be perfect for you. So I decided to start saving all the images I liked and would go from there.
It all started with a pinterest board (check it out here). I pinned everything I liked even if I didn’t know why and guess what? I started to see a pattern. For me I realized that everything I was choosing seemed to be all natural colors. Lots of white, brown and green. When I finally went to my wedding coordinator I told her that I wanted everything white, green and very natural. I pretty much just sent her my boards and photos so she would get a general vibe of what I was all about. Then my options were narrowed down and I was able to say “no.. no.. no.. no.. YES!” And thats pretty much how it happened for me.
Although the Pinterest board helped me figure out what my style was… I think everything really came together once I found the dress. Which, bee tee dubs… was hard to find because there are not many non traditional dresses out there. At least, not the type I was looking for. After that, things kind of fell into place. My board started to have a certain vibe, my dress definitely had it’s own personality and then it was just placing the pieces together and making it all make sense.
So my advice to new brides out there, save photos of everything you love. Go for what speaks to you and don’t settle for anything that doesn’t make you happy on your day.
