Styling Tip: Choose one Statement Piece

Styling Tip: Choose one Statement Piece

Let’s talk about that thing that makes your pupils dilate the second you see it. It makes your heart flutter every time you touch it. It makes you feel like a bad ass just because you can call it yours. I’m not talking about love or any sort of that “I need a man” nonsense.  I’m talking about that statement piece that you just have to have the moment you see it!
One of my favorite styling tricks is to get a statement piece that makes you feel like a boss babe and style your outfit around that piece. Always keep great items like this in your closet.  Maybe some amazing embellished jeans, an embroidered skirt, that vintage Chanel jacket you scored at a thrift shop. In this case, my statement piece is this long beautiful floral print kimono that had me at “velvet cuffed sleeves”. This  Zara kimono  is such a showstopper!
When styling a good statement piece, you don’t want to wear anything that might compete with it (as it can definitely speak for itself). These conversation starters don’t need any kind of help. Keep it simple and if anything, only wear pieces that might compliment your statement and make it stand out even more. I kept this look semi casual and styled this kimono with basics like these cropped jeans, an oversized white tee and some black mules.
I love sharing these ‘Styling Tips posts with you guys because they are so simple that you probably already know them. It just takes a small reminder of these tips or a simple explanation to help elevate your everyday outfits. What’s your favorite statement piece in your closet?

I love your ZARA duster. Such a pretty print! I have been trying to find one that I really love and every time I do, it’s not in my size. 🙁 I get that I’m-in-love moment from time to time with a bag or detailed piece that I just need to buy. My pearl bomber and rockstud bag are two that I had that feeling with.

    • Francesca Felix on March 1, 2017 at 2:55 pm

OOOh a pearl bomber sounds like the perfect statement piece!! I wanna see.

  7. Jo on March 1, 2017 at 2:54 pm

Zara forever has my heart sold on its pieces. I absolutely love this as a statement piece because its so eye catching but not totally OUT THERE if you know what I mean. I think you styled it perfectly 🙂

this kimono-like cardigan is definitely the perfect statement piece, and it can be worn in so many different ways. I could see you wearing it over a dress too 🙂 thanks for sharing your tips!

  13. Josie on March 3, 2017 at 9:36 pm

That Zara kimono is indeed a show stopper. I love the velvet cuffs and you styled it by wearing basic pieces … this way the kimono stays in focus!

I am loving the moody vibe in these pics! All the angles and shots are on point. I don’t wear too many statement pieces, most of the time, it’s just a bomber!

  15. Thomas Falkenstedt on March 5, 2017 at 9:55 am

That Kimono certainly is a showstopper! And you’re right. By adding something that draws the attention away from the statement piece you’d just overdo it and look all… well, messy. I’ve got many favorite statement pieces, but to mention one it’s (also) a floral bomber jacket that you’ll be seeing soon! 🙂

    • Francesca Felix on March 6, 2017 at 12:36 pm

OOO can’t wait to see it thomas! You are always killing it.

  16. Deddeh Howard on March 5, 2017 at 6:02 pm

This look is so relaxing but amazing, I can see myself wearing it.

  17. Lucy Hernandez on March 7, 2017 at 2:43 pm

Yes girl! I have such a crush on this kimono. Love how you styled it, instant upgrade to basic Tshirt and denim! Great style tip!

  18. Atsuna Matsui on March 7, 2017 at 3:22 pm

Every girl definitely needs some statement pieces in her wardrobe to style with. I feel like they definitely help elevate your style and make you feel so much more luxe and confident when paired with understated pieces.
