Top Runway + Street Style Trends from NYFW

New York Fashion Week has come and gone! How time flies.  I packed my bags, made sure I had all the essentials for a successful NYFW and took all the mental notes possible while in the city so I could report back to you.  I’ve been dying to share everything I saw from the streets to the runway. If you’ve been following along on my IG this month, then you got a good glimpse of what was going on behind the scenes and what I wore. If you missed it, I will be posting more about what I wore soon! First, let’s get to the good stuff. Here are the best of the best: the Top Runway and Street style trends from NYFW.

RUNWAY

TAILORED SUITS

Can’t deny a good suit is always a classic. This time around it’s all in the tailoring. Fitted belts, Structured shoulders, and monochromatic looks were everywhere! I really love the idea of playing up a structured tailored suit with a sexy bralette underneath + heels or with some sneaks to dress it down.

80’s (Puffy Sleeves + Big Bows)

The 80’s are officially back baby! Big sleeves, Big bows, and big dresses! Who would have thought right? This time around it’s 80’s but with a modern twist. Styling this trend is easy if you keep it simple with just a puffy-sleeved top and denim.

Polka Dots

Polka dots were strong this NYFW from Carolina Herrera to Noon by Noor and I’m here for it! You guys know that I can’t stop wearing dots (exhibit A, B, and C), so this is probably my favorite trend. Black and white polka dots always go with everything. The bigger the dots, the better.

Touches of subtle cutouts right above the waistline were understated but very eye-catching. Hi-Low maxi tops over high-waisted pants are the best way to show off this trend. I’m also loving jumpsuits or dresses with a simple cutout front.

Shiny Metallics

Gold, Silver, Metal, Glitz, and Shimmer were sprinkled throughout the runways. It’s all in the texture, the material, and the confidence. If this look is too much for you, a great way to ease into this trend is by adding a metallic shoe or purse to your look. Remember that accessories are always the perfect subtle touch.

STREETSTYLE

Everything Leather!

This time around, there’s a bit of play with the reversal of seasons. Leather everything from head to toe in unique structured silhouettes is the way to go, even for Spring/Summer.  I’m always a fan of a sexy structured leather skirt with a white tee and fun boots or leather pants with strappy sexy heels. It’s all in the contrasts and balance between sexy and rugged.

Fuchsia

A few of the colors of the season are Bright Orange, Pistachio and Light Blue, but FUSCHIA really stood out to me. It feels so fresh and happy! Soft pinks to bright fuschia were everywhere. A head-to-toe monochromatic look in this color would be very chic and fashion-forward. If that’s too much for you, try some bright fuschia shoes with basics like jeans and a white tee!

Oversized Belted Blazer

This trend is not going anywhere anytime soon. An oversized blazer with a belt is a sure way to instantly elevate your look. For colder days you could pair this over a turtleneck for a nice layered look for a casual-cool style. You could also wear it over a cute mini skirt and some converse for a sexy cool laid back look.

Baggy or wide-leg Trousers

High-waist wide-legged trousers are another favorite trend I saw on the streets of NYC. Wide leg trousers can be so flattering and also add length if worn correctly. My 5’4″ frame always thanks me when I wear these pants! What’s not to love?

Bottega Pouch bag

The Bottega Pouch bag had to be added to this list because every street style star had one in hand outside the shows. This bag is absolutely beautiful and really adds the perfect subtle statement to any look you decide to wear.  It will cost you a very pretty penny so only invest if you know you will wear it with EVERYTHING. The great thing is that it’s buttery soft and comes in so many colors.
