Fall Trends: How to Transition from Summer to Fall
Fall Trends: How to Transition from Summer to Fall
Can you believe it’s already September!? September/October is always an awkward time for dressing because it’s still super hot, but we can’t help but be excited for fall fashion (at least here in Southern California). I really do live for leather weather, chunky boots and all things knitwear, but for now, it’s still way too hot to even think about switching from iced coffee to hot coffee. When it comes to fashion, Summer to fall transition outfits can be a bit tricky, but I love getting creative with them. Here are a few fall trends you can already start wearing to help you transition from Summer to Fall!
HEAD TO TOE BLACK
Whether you’re confused with the weather, are over color or prints already or just don’t have the patience to figure out an outfit, an all black monochrome look is your answer. Wearing all black is timeless, always feels put together and never goes out of style. Wearing black head to toe can also make your outfit look more expensive even if it’s just a sweatsuit outfit. A black midi dress with black sandals or a mini dress with black boots are two ways you can wear an all black outfit without feeling to summery or too “fall-ish”.
KEEP YOUR SUMMER DRESSES
One of my favorite transitional weather styling tricks is finding ways to put a fall spin on my favorite summer dresses. I love pairing girly, floral dresses with chunky black or white combat boots and maybe even a wool wide brimmed hat. If you’re a big slip dress girl, this in between weather is the perfect time to add a light long sleeve underneath or pair it with a light, cropped knit cardigan.
EASE INTO LEATHER WEATHER
If you’re like me, you probably can’t wait for leather weather. During this transitional dressing period, leather is a great fall fabric to bring in. Go for a leather mini skirt or shorts and a bodysuit or pair your favorite summer denim shorts with a tank and an oversize leather blazer. Remember, the key to wearing leather right now is just to make sure to find a balance between the seasons!
TRANSITION WITH A KNIT SET
2020 has definitely been the year of the matching set. From winter cashmere sets to quarantine tie dye sweatsuits, I’m definitely in full support of this trend no matter the season. It’s always so easy. Right now, lightweight knit sets are huge. They’re perfect for transitional weather since they’re light enough to wear out and about, yet cozy enough to wear around the house.
LINGERIE OUTSIDE THE BEDROOM
There’s something about fall weather that instantly makes me feel drawn to boudoir-inspired pieces like lace camis, bustier tops, slip dresses and corset detailing. To make sexy lace details more fall appropriate, I l like to throw on a layer like a leather or denim jacket or pair them with some high-waist loose fit jeans. One of my favorite brands for lingerie inspired pieces is cami nyc, but you can also find some great ones on ASOS and Revolve.
CARDIGANS ON REPEAT
As we get closer to fall and the nights get cooler, cardigans are my go to. They’re easy to throw on when it gets chilly and make any outfit look cozy without too much coverage. From cropped to floor length cardigans, there are so many ways to wear them all year long. My favorite casual go to fall look is denim shorts, a cami, a knit cardigan and a wool fedora. I also always love mixing a sexy “lingerie” inspired piece (from above ) with chunky “grandma” cardigan. Life’s about balance 🙂
SHINE ON
Thought Metallic was only for NYE? Think again. Metallic is a fun and unexpected summer-meets-fall fabric that can easily be styled without feeling “festive”. I love the texture and dynamic look it can add to any outfit. Think of metallic as a neutral. It can pretty much go with anything. Pair a metallic midi dress with sneakers or shiny camisole with denim shorts.
