Styling Tip: Juxtapose
I don’t know about you.. but I remember a time back when your purse had to match your shoes. That time was when I was 13 and I really had no idea what I was in for. There was also a time when your eye shadow had to match your shirt. Cheah..Whatevuh, I say those “rules” are meant to be broken. I always love to pair things in unexpected ways. It’s just so much more interesting and has much more personality than an obvious same color purse/belt/shoe combo. Style is all about letting your personal style shine through and expressing yourself. I feel like I can’t stress that enough. That being said, here is one styling tips: always mix and match.
The key to mixing and matching correctly lies in wearing pieces that contrast each other in just the right way. I think it’s more of an instinct thing but if you have no idea where to start, try mixing suede on denim and a statement piece to top it off. Another idea is silk with leather and maybe a furry clutch to add that extra intrigue. Mixing and matching can also be done with different hues. Like in this look I am wearing three different shades of blue but they all play off each other.
I also really enjoy mixing high end with low end. Something new, something used and something borrowed. In this case I am wearing a high-end Chanel (new), lower end Steve Madden shoes I have used over and over again (used) and a vintage/thrifted skirt I picked up while vintage shopping in Paris (borrowed) .
How do you guys like to mix and match? What do you think of this look? xx Francesca
